My B-day This Week!!! 22!!

Okay First a Few Notes on Conclave at UCLA,

So Conclave was this past weekend, and all I have to say is that I lke LA however for an event like a conclave it was a poor choice. It has taken me three years of conclaves to understand this. Big Cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles are great cities to party in but are very far removed from what most college life is really about. Outside of maybe USC, only cause its like a college town surrounded by a Ghetto. The problem with the last two big city conclaves are that it is so big that many brothers decide to go home instead of going to the seminars, and the drive from the hotel to the campus is a long one. If I was to stay around for a 5th year I'd highly reccomend a west coast conclave be held at a college town school rather than a big city. For example a San Lois Obispo or a Davis would be perfect. This is for a few reasons:

1) Everything would be walking distance (Campus Close to Hotel in Downtown by Bars and Clubs)

2) Less ability for brothers to drive home for a day because the campus is between cities.
3) Ability to see the connectiveness of a campus with its students that a UCLA or USF/SFstate lack.
4) Parking is not an issue, no permits required on weekends to park on streets around hotel.
5) Cheaper to host a party and pull off all the important parts of conclave.

These should be reasons to move away from the large cities for conclaves. OK now my wrap up of UCLA conclave, other than the B.S. parking situation at the hotel, LA was pretty cool. The club was a crazy idea to have it in the ghetto, except that it was cold outside and too many people sharing hookahs that I got sick. Also the security had no idea what they were doing and that was a huge issue. Otherwise it was a typical conclave last year in San Francisco was a tad bit better.

I did however get my hands on a lovely Midwest Conclave Shirt from University of Michigan its definately a simpler design that turned out fantastic.

. . . .Enough Rambling.

Update numero 18:

Okay so AEPi News for today:

First of all I would like to congratulate Andy Borans on his promotion, he is both a fantastic brother who continues to give back and is well deserving of the promotion. WAY TO GO!!!

Secondly, at Chi Delta our brothers continue our success here at UCDavis besides currently practicing for the Pi Beta Phi ArrowJam event at Freeborn Hall on the 16th of February, AEPI has secured 4 of 6 seats on the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) including, President, Activities VP, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Our chapter is finally receiving the recognition we have fought for here at Davis in the realms of politics, philanthropic and social. In a recent issue of the California Aggie (Editor-in-chief an AEPi), two brothers of Chi Delta wrote influential editorials concerning completely different issues. One was an alumna, Donnie, the other a third year Mike. You can view their letters to the editor here:
California Aggie.

Okay so now that the local news has been taken care of lets look at AEPi in the National Spotlight:

Emory University in Atlanta has had their chapter in the spotlight for a few weeks since they closed a deal with the University to live in the Old Pike house on Campus. Here is the report about Emory:

IFC votes down Jewish fraternity

Now my comments about the above article: Clearly it is completely idiotic and self destructive for a Greek System to vote down the establishment of a Jewish Fraternity on a campus where there is clear interest. I cannot believe that other fraternities think of it as competition for membership, as an AEPi brother and a an active representative for AEPi at IFC for almost 3 years this opposition vote is and bad call on the part of Dartmouth. When IFC at UCDavis votes to recognize a new chapter to the community there has never been opposition to it. In fact in my time in IFC I have scene three fraternities ask for recognition from the council, and 2 of those 3 fraternities are still present. The real test should not be acceptance from IFC but would be apparent in whether or not the fraternity manages to set up successfully at a University and hold numbers for more than 4 years. So far of the three fraternities at Davis that were (re)colonized 2 are still IFC members but they still are struggling to build membership. Dartmouth IFC should not forbid AEPi all it is going to do is potentially send reverberations throughout the IFC's of other universities. KEEP FIGHTING ON AEPI DARTMOUTH IM PULLING FOR YOU!!!

Now for a Change,

Police Brutality at AEPi?? NO CAN'T BE!!!

Well it did catch your attention . . And yes it did happen according to
this article. To give a quick synopsis AEPi at the University of Chicago hosted an AEPi Rockstar Party, sponsored according to FACEBOOK, by Rockstar Energy Drink.

Private Security (an off-duty Chicago Police Officer) was hired by AEPi to maintain the front door security.

The Officer was attacked by a 1st year student who was "too drunk" according to the officer to enter the party. The officer responded and the student suffered bruises on his thighs and back as he fell down the front steps. The student was arrested and will be going to court. Some student eyewitnesses believe that the University Police did a poor unprofessional job of the situation when they arrested the student. Feel free to check out the rest of the article for more specifics and eyewitness reports.

Enjoy because it is the only article involving AEPi that I have found this week . .
